Dog taken by crocodile in Queensland

A dog playing in a river in remote Queensland has been eaten by a huge crocodile in a shocking incident captured on camera.

The owner was walking his three dogs along the Watson River in the remote Indigenous community of Aurukun, north-west of Cairns, when the tragedy struck.

He had been filming the dogs playing in the water when suddenly a large crocodile emerges from the water and bites the dog Ben, dragging it under.

Aurukun Indigenous Knowledge Centre shared the video as a croc warning, saying the ancient predators can be harder to spot around rivers at high tide.

"Ben the dog is unfortunately chomped by Pikkuw (crocodile)," the group said in a Facebook post.

"This is a warning for those of you who are venturing too close to the river's edge, especially at high tide as crocs seem to be more camouflaged at this time."
